The Ministry of the Environment has granted approximately EUR 358,000 to the biogas plant projects of Suomen Lantakaasu and Nurmon Bioenergia in Finland

The Ministry of the Environment has granted a total of approximately EUR 358,000 to support nutrient recycling biogas plant projects by Suomen Lantakaasu and Nurmon Bioenergia. Of the total, Suomen Lantakaasu received EUR 255,768, and Nurmon Bioenergia EUR 101,800. These grants aim to boost the production and advanced utilisation of high-quality recycled nutrients.
Suomen Lantakaasu studies the feasibility of a biogas plant in Central Ostrobothnia and explores possibilities to further process digestate into valuable fertiliser products. Nurmon Bioenergia Oy, on the other hand, is investing in loading tanks to improve the consistency and logistics of its fertiliser products.
The funding was granted under the Ahti programme, which supports investments and RDI (research, development, and innovation) projects focusing on nutrient load reduction, soil structure improvement, contaminant management, and resource recovery and utilisation. It also encourages the development of the recycled nutrient market and collaboration in nutrient recycling.
“The projects of Suomen Lantakaasu and Nurmon Bioenergia Oy play an important role in strengthening the domestic market for recycled nutrients and increasing interest in their use. Efficient nutrient cycling helps us make the most of available resources and reduce nutrient runoff into waterways. Using manure and other agricultural residues in biogas and fertiliser production cuts emissions from both transport and farming – it’s a prime example of the circular economy at work,” says Leena Helminen, Managing Director of Suomen Lantakaasu Oy.
